The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is the not-for-profit global humanitarian aid organization of the United Methodist Church. UMCOR is working in more than 80 countries worldwide, including the United States. Their mission, grounded in the teachings of Jesus, is to alleviate human suffering—whether caused by war, conflict or natural disaster, with open hearts and minds to all people. UMCOR responds to natural or civil disasters that are interruptions of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community's ability to recover on its own. Every dollar you give to UMCOR goes to the program you designate. UMCOR is 100% efficient. You can support this non-profit humanitarian aid organization by placing contributions marked “UMCOR" in the offering plate or sending them to the church office. For more information, visit their website www.umc.org/how-we-serve/responding-to-disaster and https://www.umcmission.org/umcor
This mission is part of Samaritan's Purse and works with local churches and ministry partners to deliver "shoe box" gifts worldwide to needy children and share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Collection times are in early November. Click here to go to their website.
Rise Against Hunger is growing a global movement to end hunger by empowering communities, nourishing lives and responding to emergencies. This spring we collected donations and hosted a packing event on Saturday, May 4. The Rise Against Hunger packing events provide a fun, educational way for groups to literally lend a hand to people facing hunger across the globe. We combine an assembly line process with an educational experience to not only make a huge impact worldwide, but to touch the lives of those in our group.
Go to the Rise Against Hunger website for more information.
This a great opportunity for everyone to take a moment and see how we spend extra money on food, drinks, etc. Go to Starbucks one less time a week or eat out one less time a week and donate the cost of the coffee or meal. Every little amount helps!
