Mt. Zion United Methodist Church is a church with a history of over 185 years, and a vision for service for the future.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

With Christians around the world, we confess faith in the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The Christian faith has been summarized in two historic confessions: The Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed.  These creeds form the core of our Christian belief, but we also emphasize that our faith must be lived out in the world through the service of love.  As the Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 13, we can have all faith so as to remove mountains, but if we do not have love, we are a noisy gong and a clashing cymbal.

Service to Our Community and World by Realizing an Even Greater Vision for the Future

Since 1827, the people of Mt. Zion UMC have sought to be God's people so that God might be a part of the community in which we live. We believe that the heart of the community has been, is, and shall be, the Church. Because of that belief, we welcome all people in search of God's teaching who desire a spiritual home.

Our intention is to build upon our great heritage of service to our community

and world by realizing an even greater vision for the future.

A Church with a History

of Over 185 Years

On June 23, 1827 at the Second Quarterly Conference of the Sugar Creek Circuit, South Carolina Conference, we find inscribed in the minutes for the first time "the Meeting Society called Zion."

Thus began the life of Mount Zion United Methodist, one that has continued for over one hundred eighty-five years. Mount Zion has remained an active part of the spiritual life of the community bringing people closer together in the name of Jesus Christ.

what to expect

At Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, You will discover a warm group of people dedicated to following our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

From the moment you step into the building, you can expect:

  • A WARM GREETING- A heartfelt greeting is part of what makes a church a church. No matter what question you might have, just ask. Our greeters at each service are there to help you get settled and comfortable.
  • A PRESSURE-FREE ENVIRONMENT: We want our guests to feel welcome and comfortable. If you and your family decide to visit us for worship, please know that you will not be asked to do or say anything which will make you stand out. You will not be asked to stand or speak or identify yourself as a guest.
  • AN ENGAGING MESSAGE: We offer two worship services on Sundays with each featuring the same message. The 8:30 service is blended with contemporary music and communion every week; 11:00 service is traditional with choir and communion once a month.
  • JOYFUL UPLIFTING MUSIC: Be prepared to be uplifted by music! Our services include a blend of contemporary and traditional music as well as opportunities to participate in our music program. From hymns to contemporary to acoustic to seasonal hand bells, we seek to honor and praise the Lord through music.
We want you to take your time to feel comfortable at Mt. Zion, getting to know us while worshiping God as you become connected at your own pace.

In our worship services at Mt. Zion, we generally follow the seasons of the Christian year:

  • Advent:  Christ and His Coming are awaited
  • Christmas:  Christ is born
  • Epiphany:  Christ is made known for all the world's people
  • Lent:  Christ came to reconcile us to God
  • Easter: Christ was resurrected, defeating sin and death
  • Pentecost: the Holy Spirit comes so that the Church may faithfully follow Jesus Christ and be a sign, herald, and foretaste of the Kingdom of God.
  • All of the services and sermons are planned and freshly designed from the Word of God and with the purpose of sharing Christ in this manner.
