Get Involved with Missions Local to the Area!

Mt. Zion participates in the following missions, local to the Cornelius, North Carolina community:

 

Ada Jenkins/Food Pantry

This local mission is a non-profit services agency, located in Davidson, providing programs and services focused on supporting those in need in Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, and South Iredell County.  Mt. Zion provides food donations to their pantry.

(Collection bins are located in the Family Life Center, the upper level of the Education Building, the lower level of the Sanctuary Building outside the elevator and outside the Library in the church office area.)

Annual BBQ

This fundraising event is well-known and well-attended by the church and community.  The BBQ is cooked throughout the night with the held of many dedicated adult and youth volunteers and sold the next day along with all the other fixings.

Ways You Can Help:

VOLUNTEER: We need volunteers – no amount of time or effort is too small!  Work has already started.  Come the day of the BBQ or work in the days leading up to it.

ATTEND, INVITE OTHERS, and ENJOY:

  • Food is available in the country style dining room or through our take out line. Food selection includes:  $9 BBQ Plate or 3 Sandwiches…$10 per lb. of BBQ…$1.50 per lb. slaw……$5 Kid’s Meal (Corn Dog, Chips, Cookie, Drink)
  • Please join us in the dining room (Family Life Center) at lunch time for LIVE Entertainment!

BE A SPONSOR: 

  • Your $25 Donation entitles you to name a flying pig and sponsor the event by helping to offset costs. Sponsorship dollars (along with your pig’s name) can be given to any Sonseeker member – we will name your pig on the bulletin board outside our classroom (Room 205) and proudly display all the pigs on BBQ day! 
  • After many requests our BBQ T-shirts will be on sale this year – the $15 shirts will be available in youth and adult sizes. Shirts can be ordered following all three church services on October 9th and 16th or by contacting Deana King ( ).

Backpack Ministry

This ministry provides meals for elementary school children who wouldn't have basic food on weekends.  This program run concurrently with the school year.

Habitat for Humanity

Mt. Zion is one of many churches in our area participating in the Habitat for Humanity interfaith Build program contributing financial support and volunteers.

Prayer Shawl

The members of this group knit or crochet prayer shawls for people in crisis as well as baby blankets that are given to the infants baptized at Mt. Zion.  Shawls are distributed by the Pastors or the Stephen Ministry.

New Beginnings

New Beginnings is open to anyone who has lost a spouse because of death or divorce.  They have lunch together with a speaker on the 3rd Monday of each month. They also do social events together.

Repairers of the Breach

This ministry helps families in need identified by Ada Jenkins.  At Christmas, families are provided with new clothing, gift cards, toys, and food.  At Easter, the mission puts together Easter baskets and distributes them to children who attended the Learn Works after-school program at Ada Jenkins.

Room In the Inn

Mt. Zion partners with the Urban Ministries Center in Charlotte and volunteers as a host site for their Room In the Inn (RITI) mission providing transportation, housing, and food to 10 neighbors who are homeless 1 night a week (Tuesdays).

Wings of Eagles

This program is a non-profit organization located in Cabarrus County that offers therapeutic horseback riding sessions for children and adults with special needs to increase flexibility, balance, confidence and self-esteem.

YMCA O.W.L.S (Older, Wiser, Living Stronger)

The local YMCA provides seniors with the opportunity to improve their physical, emotional, and spiritual health through exercise, wellness programs, and Christian fellowship.

Dates:  Wednesdays 2:00 - 3:00pm in the Family Life Center Gym
